LIGHTING THE WAY FOR SAFE AND RESPONSIBLE FIREWORKS
Education. Advocacy. Common-sense Policy.
The Canadian National Fireworks Association (CNFA) is a national voice for the fireworks industry—supporting safe, responsible use while preserving the cultural and economic value fireworks bring to Canadian communities. We work with regulators, industry leaders, and the public to ensure fireworks remain a vibrant part of Canadian celebrations through education, advocacy, and common-sense policy.
As a not-for-profit safety and advocacy group, CNFA provides guidance, resources, and training to promote safety across all aspects of the fireworks industry—from manufacturers and retailers to consumers and community event organizers. Whether you’re lighting up the sky or shaping the future of fireworks in Canada, we’re here to support you.
BUILD TRUST. SHOW COMPLIANCE. GET CERTIFIED.
The CNFA Vendor Certification Program sets the standard for safe, responsible fireworks retail.
In an industry where safety and compliance are critical, the CNFA Vendor Certification Program gives retailers the credibility and training they need to stand out. This national certification is designed to help fireworks vendors meet federal regulations, follow best practices, and demonstrate their commitment to safe, responsible sales.
Whether you’re a seasonal seller or a year-round retailer, certification through CNFA gives your customers, suppliers, and regulators confidence that you’re doing things right. It’s more than just a badge—it’s a signal that your business takes safety seriously and operates with professionalism and care.

BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR PROGRAM

Celebrate with Care. Spark Joy, Not Concern.
Fireworks are a vibrant part of Canadian festivities, lighting up our skies and spirits. But with great celebration comes great responsibility. The Be A Good Neighbour program by CNFA encourages all Canadians to enjoy fireworks thoughtfully, ensuring that the joy they bring doesn’t come at the expense of our communities’ comfort and safety.
WHY IT MATTERS:
Respect for All
Not everyone shares the same enthusiasm for fireworks. Pets, veterans, young children, and the elderly can be particularly sensitive to loud noises.
Safety First
Improper use can lead to injuries or property damage. Being informed and cautious protects everyone.
Community Harmony
By following local guidelines and being considerate, we foster goodwill and ensure that fireworks remain a cherished tradition.
HOW TO BE A GOOD NEIGHBOUR:

Know the Rules
Check your municipality’s regulations regarding fireworks usage.

Inform Ahead
Let your neighbours know about your plans to set off fireworks. A simple heads-up can make a big difference.

Choose Wisely
Opt for fireworks that are appropriate for your setting and audience.

Clean Up
Ensure all debris is collected and disposed of properly to keep public spaces clean.

SAFETY THROUGH STANDARDS: WHY CANADA GETS FIREWORKS RIGHT
Tough regulations, fewer injuries, and a national commitment to responsible celebration.
When it comes to fireworks safety, Canada stands apart. Thanks to strong federal regulations, community-level enforcement, and the ongoing efforts of the Canadian National Fireworks Association (CNFA), the country has maintained some of the lowest rates of fireworks-related injuries in the developed world. It’s a model that shows what’s possible when public safety and celebration go hand in hand.
Canada’s fireworks industry operates under some of the strictest safety regulations in the world—standards that have helped keep injury and fatality rates significantly lower than those reported in the United States. According to the Canadian Hospitals Injury Reporting and Prevention Program (CHIRPP), just 210 cases of fireworks-related injuries were reported between 2011 and 2023. That’s an average of fewer than 20 incidents per year across all participating hospitals, with no consistently reported fatalities.

CASES OF REPORTED FIREWORKS-RELATED INJURIES:
In comparison, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) reported over 9,700 emergency department visits and eight deaths from fireworks incidents in 2023 alone. While population differences play a role, the gap underscores the effectiveness of Canada’s regulatory approach, particularly in areas like consumer access, safety labelling, and enforcement. Much of this progress is also thanks to the Canadian National Fireworks Association (CNFA), which works closely with regulators and stakeholders to promote education, accountability, and common-sense policy. CNFA’s proactive role in industry advocacy and public outreach ensures fireworks remain a safe, celebratory tradition, not a public safety hazard.
