Who can purchase & discharge

Let’s begin by finding out who can purchase and discharge consumer fireworks

Anyone purchasing fireworks must be 18 years of age or older; the exception being toy pistol caps.

To discharge (use, set off) fireworks the user must be at least 18 years of age or under the supervision of someone at least 18 years of age.  Some municipalities do not allow anyone under 18 even if supervised.  The exception is toy pistol caps.

You should ask for government issued photo identification if your customer looks under the age of 25.

Acceptable identification cards are a valid drivers license, passport or government issued identification.

Check the ID closely and be sure it has not been tampered with. If you have any doubts, you can ask verifying questions or choose not to sell to them. Remember, selling to an underage person is a offence.

As a point of safety, the CNFA recommends that everyone discharging consumer fireworks wear safety goggles and gloves. A source of water or a fire extinguisher is recommended at the discharge location.

Have your customers check wind conditions before discharging.

Discharging fireworks in a public or government park is an offence if a municipal permit from your local fire department is required.

The user should check the local fire ban status in your community before discharging.
