Explosives Act & Explosives Regulations 

Natural Resources Canada
Explosives Regulatory Division 

  • Natural Resources Canada
    Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) seeks to enhance the responsible development and use of Canada’s natural resources (including mining) and the competitiveness of Canada’s natural resources products.  
  • NRCan is an established leader in science and technology in the fields of energy, forests, and minerals and metals and use our expertise in earth sciences to build and maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of our landmass. 
  • The Explosives Safety and Security Branch (ESSB) 

The Explosives Safety and Security Branch (ESSB) aims to ensure the safety of the public and of workers in Canada’s explosives industry by: 

            administering the Explosives Act and regulations 

           advancing explosives safety and security technology 

  • Explosives Regulatory Division 

Located within the ESSB, the Explosives Regulatory Division (ERD) ensures that manufacturers, importers, exporters, and vendors of explosives, as well as those who store explosives or sell restricted components, comply with Canada’s Explosives Act and its regulations. 

 

Transportation of Dangerous Goods 

Transport Canada 

  • Transport Canada 

Transport Canada is responsible for transportation policies and programs. They promote safe, secure, efficient and environmentally responsible transportation. 

 

They are responsible for the Transportation of Dangerous Goods. 

  • Provincial, municipal and noise bylaws 

Provinces and municipalities may have their own by-laws and regulations regarding fireworks, such as restricting the sale of fireworks to certain holidays during the year.  

The Explosives Act does not exempt anyone from complying with local requirements.
